- About Julius Roman Hebrew
- Julius Roman has been selected at TypeCon2016 in Seattle in the context of the type competition for speculative & innovative typedesign protoType. The underlying motivation behind Julius Roman is not to mimic Latin but to offer a new tool in the Hebrew typographer’s arsenal, with an alphabet that has a contemporary aesthetic, suited to modern thought and concerns and thus to try and move Hebrew typography forwards. The idea was not to replace or supersede the old, but as standard Hebrew is an essentially “all-caps” proposition with almost no descenders and ascenders, it is always difficult to achieve a pleasing typographic setting when using both scripts next to each other on the same page.
