About Klaket
Klaket is a bold and monolinear Arabic display typeface. It was inspired by classic Egyptian film posters that were playful in the use of the Ruqah style, and aims for a Ruqah typeface that feels classic but unmistakably contemporary in its approach. The typeface started with Toshi’s visit to Cairo in 2016. Things started to take shape in the following years of struggle to incorporate more graphical ideas (i.e. bold and monolinear), and Latin was added deliberately after the Arabic. The Latin is a slab face that shares the same baseline slant and is equally fun. The word Klaket is the Arabic word for clapperboard, which comes from French. The family is best enjoyed in colour!
