- About ELLA Roman
- Ella is a stencil typeface family with four styles (Roman, Uncial, Rustic, Brutalist) in two weights (Regular, Bold) and a calligraphic flair. Its Roman, Uncial, and Rustic styles reflect the evolution of Roman script, sharing a unique lowercase with a large x-height and triangular serifs for sharpness and warmth. The bold Brutalist style pushes calligraphic expression to its limits. Ella wants to show how classic calligraphy models can be adapted into stencil-style fonts and perform as a contemporary digital typeface. This project started at the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography "Typographers-in-Residence 2021: Mujeres Hispanas y Tipografía". TDC 2023 and ISTD 2024 Winner
