- About Prototype
- Prototype is a typeface with a very contemporary identity crisis—is it old? New? Uppercase? Lowercase? Serif or sans-serif? There have been many attempts at creating a universal typeface that rationalise the alphabet – removing inconsistencies of upper and lower case. Prototype goes further by destroying the divide between serif and sans serif too. It was the same ‘rationalisation’ experiment intentionally carried out at a time when design was experiencing an identity crisis of its own. The result is a font with a strange feel, part futuristic, part almost Celtic – as a result it also has a terrible identity crisis of its own.
