- About Infidel
- Infidel is based upon letterforms from the Lindisfarne Gospels and bibles from the Middle Ages. Not a revival but a modern interpretation of these wonderfully idiosyncratic forms. Some of the sources are beautiful, others unsightly, some we would consider highly experimental – all are far away from what we recognise as legible letterforms today. Each character has a set of four wildly different alternatives which interlock with the other letters to make a strong bold graphic statement. The typeface was given an intentionally confrontational name to remind us that these serene, religious, historic forms contained the contradiction of religious intolerance.
